ART THOMYA
Born and raised in Thailand, Art has lived in the UK and France and represented Thailand in various cultural exchange programs in Japan, Norway, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, The Philippines, Indonesia, and Korea.
Awarded first prize of Chulalongkorn University Singing Contest while being an Engineering student, Art also won other two national-level singing competitions in Thailand, involving 11,000 contestants in 1999. In 2002, he was selected to play a leading role in 'A Different Kind of Truth', a musical production at the University of London and took part in Bangkok production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, a musical by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. In 2003, he was selected, among 300 hopefuls, to play one of the four leading roles in a 1.5 Million US Dollar production of ‘The River of Kings IV’, a musical play that was staged next to Bangkok’s Grand Palace and attracted more than 70,000 spectators from around the globe. This grand project was led by Princess Ubolrat Rachakanya and promoted through local and international media, including CNN, BBC, and NHK. In addition to writing his own songs (English and Thai) and playing some piano, Art is eager to sing in different languages, particularly Japanese and Mandarin. His favorite music style is Soul/ R&B with inspirations from artists like Alicia Keys, Jay Chou, Sukimaswitch, and Ken Hirai. He was trained by several professional music and acting coaches e.g. Tim Johnson (Berklee College graduate who co-worked with Bette Midler), Yutthana Mukdasanit (Thailand’s legendary movie director), etc. Art was a tenor in several choir groups, including The British Community Theatre Choir, The Christian Choir of Thailand, and performed in ‘Grand Concert’ for Her Majesty The Queen’s 72nd Birthday with Bangkok Symphony Orchestra in 2004. Art is also a cultural ambassador. In 2001, he was one of the two students from Southeast Asian region who was selected an ‘Ambassadorial Scholar’ by Rotary International to promote international understanding and Thai culture for one year in London, UK. Previously, Art had joined several cultural exchange programs in Norway, France, Japan, and Southeast Asian countries. In each place he has been to, Art has learned a wide range of local music genres. Recently, Art has been selected “Citibank Clear Card Idol” to be a presenter for Citibank Ads & PR activities throughout 2005-06. In 2007, Art co-worked with a Japanese artist, Noriko Tsuboi, in creating a song for the 120th Anniversary of Japan-Thailand relations. The song "Watashi no Tomodachi (My Friend)" tells the story about the everlasting friendship between the two nations. His passion is to perform, create good music, and communicate his message to people in many regions of the world. He dreams to create something new to Thai music industry and fill his music fans with great pleasure.
